Painting of the week- "View to the Bay"
The featured painting for this week is a recent artwork commission that I had the privledge to paint. I was contacted by a new client to paint a watercolor painting of the view from her late Mother-in-law’s house in Southold NY. (Which also happens to be where I currently reside.) Her husband recently lost his Mom and this is the place he feels to closest to her. So she wanted to capture the view for him as a first anniversary gift. Traditionally the gift for a first anniversary is paper, so a watercolor painting on paper fills that requirement.
As a watercolor artist I love to take on commissioned pieces as my schedule allows. To be able to help a couple celebrate an anniversary or help someone capture an image near and dear to them is a great honor. At first the project may seem a bit daunting but I love a challenge and am always very inspired to create a unique piece for my client. This photo reference I worked from captured a beautiful sunset of soft, pinks, liliacs and blues. I loved the contrast of the rich greens in the landscape with the pastel sky.
Upon completion the client said “Thank you for making the perfect 1st Wedding Anniversary gift! He loved it! Your work totally captured one of his favorite places and is already hanging on our wall! You are truly talented and your love for your work shines though your artwork! “
It was a pleasure to capture this special place for a special couple. I am at work on another commisssion for a client’s daughter’s room combining 3 of her favorite things. Sunflowers, Grennport Harbor and the Caurosel so I better get back to work on it!
